Running Windows 95, 98, ME, 2000, XP software programs on
Windows 7 using the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter

WINDOWS 7 PROGRAM COMPATIBILITY

Windows 7 was designed with backward compatibility for software in mind, so that software designed to run all the way back to Windows 95 should run in Windows 7. Many XP programs and most Vista programs will run just fine with no tweaks. However, some programs may not run well or won't run at all. In that case, there are several remedies built into Windows 7.

NOTE: The offering of this information is not a guarantee that these remedies will absolutely work on every software NOT designated on the software as compatible with WINDOWS 7.

Program Compatibility: What Is It?
Program compatibility is a mode in Windows 7 that lets you run many programs written for earlier versions of Windows such as Windows 95, 98, Me, 2000, and XP. If an older program doesn't run correctly, you can use the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter to simulate earlier versions of Windows, which may address the issue.
Getting Older Software Programs to Run in Windows 7
There are 4 methods Windows 7 uses to run older Windows programs:

Program Compatibility Assistant - Runs automatically when it detects an older program having compatibility problems.

Program Compatibility Troubleshooter - A tool you can run manually on a program if you notice compatibility issues.

Warning: Do not use the Program Compatibility Wizard on older system programs, antivirus programs, or disk utilities. This may cause data loss or create a security risk.

Program Compatibility Tab - More advanced users can also change settings for an individual program manually by using that program's Compatibility tab. Not recommended for most people. Use the Troubleshooter instead.

Virtual Machine / Windows XP Mode - A free downloadable program that allows you to run programs in an XP OS virtual environment. This is only available for Windows 7 versions Professional and above. Not available for Home version.

4) Then select Start the Program to see if the new settings work. If they do, then select NEXT to finalize the settings.

If your application still does not work, you might try using the XP Virtual Machine/ Windows XP Mode, or contact the program vendor for software updates.
