NATIONAL CITY - Attractions

Beaches Index

A small city 10 miles north of the Mexican border, National City is San Diego County's second oldest city and is home to the National City Marine Terminal, the most advanced vehicle import/export facility on the West Coast.

It seems that for years the plan has been to develop the bay area, and to eventually have a small boat harbor and various commercial districts similar to the well-developed harbor and park facilites in Chula Vista, just south of National City.

The development is progressing, and Pepper Park, a public boat-launch facility at the south terminus of Tidelands Avenue in National City, opened April 1, 2009, and a miniature two-lane bicycle roadway linking National City and Chula Vista was completed. Pier 32 Marina was completed in 2011.

Note: In 2003 Sycuan Tribal Development Corp partnered with MRW Group and Latino Builders to form the Marina Gateway Company. The partnership will begin National City's bay front transformation from industrial to recreational and retail.

Although National City seems to be best known for its "Mile of Cars," and there isn't any beach or bay information to give you, the city is steeped in California history and several of its sites are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. There is the Railcar Museum, several parks, and a nice municipal golf course.
