Coronado City Beach runs from NAS to the north, down to the Hotel del Coronado, on the ocean side. The landmark Hotel del Coronado, built in 1888 is one of the largest wooden structures in the world. The beach is divided into North (aka Dog Beach), Central Beach (generally referred to as just City Beach, located just behind the Hotel Del), and South Beach (ocean side) with Glorietta Beach on the bay side. Coronado has the widest expanse of sand of any beach in San Diego County. All are clean, family-friendly beaches with plenty of activities available. Sand volleyball courts can be found along the beach from the Hotel Del running north up to North Beach. North Beach is a dog-friendly beach known locally as Dog Beach. Right across from Dog Beach is Sunset Park, with a large, grassy picnic area. SEE: Coronado City Beach North / Dog Beach. There is a bike path south of the Hotel Del Coronado near South Beach. Glorietta Bay Beach, on the bay side of South Beach has a large grassy park, a small beach area, restrooms, and a playground for the kiddies. It is wheelchair accessible.
