Oceanside City Beach (aka The Strand):

General:
Oceanside City Beach, a palm-lined four-mile beach, is also known as The Strand. The Strand itself is actually the main street along the shore. This beach is complete with great sand, boardwalk, and pier. The closer to the pier, at the foot of Mission Blvd, the more the activity (see Pier View South). If you like high activity, this beach is loaded with families from all over North County, lots of teens, and even Marines from Camp Pendleton (hear that, girls?). This is a nice, safe spot for children to swim, or for boogie boarding. Year-round Board surfing is great up by the harbor (see Harbor Beach). Fishing's good from the pier. Volleyball courts are set up along the beach. There is a playground by the pier. If you want it a bit quieter, move over to the north side of the pier (see Pier View North).

Activities: Swiming, sunbathing, boogie-boarding, board surfing (by the harbor), volleyball, picnicing.

Facilities:
Lifeguards / Picnic facilities / Playground by the pier
Pier Facilities:
Well-lighted after dark / Open 24 hours / Restrooms

Harbor Beach

Harbor Beach and Oceanside Harbor, aka The Jetties

General:
This is the widest beach in Oceanside, nearly a quarter-mile from street to surf with some of the best sand in the county. Naturally that makes it one of the most popular beaches with a lot of activity going on. A great place for sunning, swimming, body boarding, and body surfing. Volleyball courts are available, but you must bring your own net. Oceanside Harbor, aka The Jetties (adjacent to Harbor Beach), is a popular board surfing area. This area is prone to rip tides and strong currents because of the jetties and harbor walls, so be alert. You can also fish from The Jetties. Lifeguard towers are located all along the beach (about a mile apart) with lifeguards on duty during the summer months.

Activities:
Sunning, swimming, body boarding & body surfing, board surfing (harbor), volleyball, fishing.

There is good surfing here, however, surfers will have to move on down to the jetty in the summer as the beach is closed to surfing in front of Lifeguard Tower 8. The jetty is where the San Luis Rey River meets the ocean, and this area is sparsely populated as it is open to surfing only, and it's quite a way from parking.

Pier View North

General:

Checkered flags and signs will designate the swimming/surfing areas. There are volleyball courts on the beach, but you must provide your own ball & net.

Pier View South

General:
Oceanside's South Pier Beach is the most popular in the area. Loaded with swimmers, surfers, sunbathers. There is much activity on and around the Pier itself. Besides being a popular fishing spot, during the summer months, surfing, body surfing and bodyboarding contests are held at the pier. Various events are also held in the Oceanside Pier Amphitheater. A bait shop, payphones and restrooms are located on the pier.

During the summer, the specific area from Tower 1, south, is closed to surfing most of the day, and is clearly marked. The "surfing-only" area

General:
Tyson Street Beach, at the corner of Wisconsin St and The Strand, is a very popular beach that offers lots of amenities. It adjoins Tyson Street Park, just a few feet from the beach, and is within walking distance of the Oceanside Pier. While Wisconsin Street Beach offers a narrow strip of sandy beach, the adjoining park has a grassy lawn, playground, picnic tables, benches, and a summer concession stand. This is a good safe beach for swimming, and to let your children do some beachcombing, because surfing is prohibited in this area during the summer months for the safety of swimmers & waders. This is clearly marked with flags & signs.

Wisconsin Street Beach

General:
If you are looking for a quiet, less-populated beach, this may be for you. Due to this beach being so narrow, and at high-tide the beach disappears entirely, it's not Oceanside's most popular. However, the ocean in this area is open to all water activities, and it does have a lifeguard at Tower 7, so it does have its appeal.

Activities: Swimming, sunbathing, all water activities.

Facilities:
Lifeguard: Tower 7
Snack shop / Restrooms / Showers / Public telephone

Location / Directions:
At Lifeguard Tower 7
Wisconsin Street Beach is located at Wisconsin Street & The Strand.

Parking:
A small pay parking lot is located directly behind the lifeguard tower on The Strand. There is also parking along Pacific Street.

Oceanside Boulevard Beach

General:
Offering more beach than Wisconsin to the north, and Bucaneer to the south, Oceanside Boulevard Beach is a good beach for swimming & for kids because surfing is prohibited in the area directly in front of the lifeguard tower during the summer months for the safety of swimmers, waders, and bodyboarders. This area is clearly marked with flags & signs.

Activities:
In summer: swimming, wading, bodyboarding only.

Facilities:
Lifeguard: Tower 9
Outdoor shower / NO restrooms / The closest public restroom is Buccaneer or Wisconsin Street beaches

Location / Directions:
At Lifeguard Tower 9
From I-5, exit on Oceanside Boulevard. Go west toward the beach until you see Lifeguard Tower 9. Beach access is a super-wide gently sloping path right off Oceanside Blvd leading right to Tower 9.

Parking:

Buccaneer Beach

General:
Get away from the crowds and head toward Buccaneer Beach, a bit farther south of Oceanside Boulevard Beach. This is a family beach, barely 150 feet wide, and one of Oceanside's smallest beaches. The beach itself may be best for sunbathing, however it does have a lifeguard tower, and a park with lots of amenities just across the street. A good beach for the kids because besides the nearby park, surfing is prohibited in the area directly in front of the lifeguard tower during the summer months for the safety of swimmers, waders, and bodyboarders. This area is clearly marked with flags & signs. The area outside of the flags is open to surfing and to all other types of water activity.

Buccaneer Park:
Across the street from the beach, has a great lawn, restroom and a shaded gazebo, jungle gym, full basketball court, barbeque grills, public restrooms, picnic tables, snack bar, showers, and public telephone. Even a free parking lot. What more could you ask for?

Activities:
Beach: Swimming, wading, bodyboarding, sunbathing
Lots of activities available at the Park.

Activities: Surfing, relaxing, hiking along the nearby Clark Trail.

Facilities:
Lifeguard: None
No Facilities

Location:
In Oceanside, at Cassidy and Pacific Streets, south of Bucaneer Beach.
